Now my battery doesn't die!
Just got done replacing my old Bosh alternator with this new AL82N one today on my 1970 VW Campmobile. I only drive it on weekends so it spends a lot of time sitting. My battery was having a hard time holding a charge & I thought that it was because of the fact that I just didn't drive it much. I finally decided to run a couple tests. I tried polarizing it & that didn't work. Then I decided to disconnect the positive cable while the engine was running & it died right away, which told me that my bus was running off of the battery.
I was able to install this without dropping the engine! I didn't even have to remove the oil filler. All I did was remove the throttle linkage from my dual carbs, removed the alternator strap, & removed the 4 bolts that hold the backplate to the fan housing. Then I just had to barely push the fan housing back, just a hair, & I was able to tilt the alternator, with the fan attached, forward enough to just slip it out.

I would give it five stars, however...... The cap screws were overtightened so the shaft would not turn at all. It would have been nice to know before I installed it into by 1976 VW beetle. So tight the belt just squeeled and froze. If you have had a beetle before then you know what a somewhat nightmare this was to take out and put back in again! Anyway, I loosened the cap screws and the shaft freed up. Long story short. This should have been caught when the alternator was bench tested correct? Makes you wonder if it was tested at all. Paperwork says that it was!
Great service, good product
I am rating this alternator at a four only because I had to send the first one back as it was not working properly. After installing the alternator I found that my head lights and dash were flickering. I had some testing done on the alternator and found that it was putting out too much electricity. I called Amazon and was asked to send the bum alternator back, and the new one arrived two days later. Amazon gave me no hassle, it was honestly the most painless return I've ever had. The new alternator has given me no problems. So far I rate this product a good buy.
